MELBOURNE | Revered singer and performer Alkinoos Ioannides headlines the Lonsdale St Greek Festival in Melbourne next month, taking to the Delphi Bank stage on Saturday 27 February. Cypriot born Ioannides joins a long list of acclaimed artists that have performed at the Festival including Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Haris Alexiou, Glykeria, Dimitra Galani, Alkistis Protopsaltis and Mihalis Hatzigiannis.

In his constantly evolving live performances, of which there are up to 100 per year, Ioannides combines electric music with chamber orchestras and rock bands with choirs, all deriving from his Greek and Middle Eastern influences. He will be joined on stage on Yiorgos Kaloudis (cello, Cretan lyra), Dimitrios Chatzizisis (violin), Dimitris Tsekouras (double bass) and Manolis Pappos (bouzouki) delivering a soul-moving program appealing to many musical tastes.

Jorge Menidis, Director of The Greek Centre in Melbourne said: “We are very proud to have secured yet another quality international artist who will excite Melbourne audiences during a free concert in the heart of the historic Greek precinct of Lonsdale Street. This event reinforces a love of Greek culture, attracting thousands of attendees each year.”

“I’m honoured to be invited to perform at this much-loved Greek festival, and can’t wait to get back to Australia. It’s heartening to see how popular Greek culture is in a country more than 8000 miles from Europe, and the Greek Community should be proud of its role in this achievement”, said Ioannides.

The event will take over Lonsdale Street with free entertainment across two stages, Greek street food, pop-up bars, cooking demonstrations, competitions, children’s activities and much more.

The 29th Lonsdale St Greek Festival is a Greek Community of Melbourne event. It is held in Lonsdale Street Melbourne on Sat 27 and Sun 28 February.
