MELBOURNE | At the end of December the Consul General of Greece in Melbourne Ms Eleni Lianidou finishes her term of office and she will be replaced by Ms Christina Simantiraki.

Ms Lianidou, who studied Law at the University of Athens and she is member of the Hellenic Diplomatic Service since 1991, was appointed as Consul General for Greece in Melbourne in 2011.

Ms Lianidou has represented Greece as a Consul General in Pretoria, South Africa; Vancouver, Canada; Brussels, Belgium; and as a RELEX counsellor of Greece to the EU.

She was a strong supporter of the Greek community activities and cultural events and she was engaged in various activities in an effort to advance the interests of Greece and the Greek Australian community. Her departure after two years of service in Melbourne has caused a lot of dissatisfaction in the majority of Melbourne’s Greek community.
