On a memorable day at Montreal’s City Hall, the council chambers resonated with chants of “LONG LIVE GREECE” as the Greek flag was proudly waved. According to Justin Fragoulis-Argyris, Mayor Valerie Plante addressed the gathering, reflecting on the Greek Revolution and Greece’s monumental struggle for liberation.
The event brought together city councilors Mary Deros, Despina Sourias, and Effie Giannou Karmiris, along with Pierrefonds-Roxboro Mayor Dimitrios Jim Beis, to honor the journey of Greek immigrants from Greece to Montreal and their successful integration into the city’s vibrant society.
Councilor Despina Sourias paid a heartfelt tribute to Montreal’s Greek women, fondly recalling the legacy of her mother, Ioanna Sourias, and celebrating the enduring contributions of the Greek community to Montreal’s cultural fabric.
