Carers from PRONIA’s dementia “Stronger Together” program took a well-deserved break from their demanding roles to participate in a special art therapy session.
Designed to reduce stress and anxiety, the activity also provided a much-needed opportunity for social connection and fun. For these dedicated individuals, who devote their lives to caring for loved ones with dementia, the session was a chance to pause, reflect, and express themselves creatively.
Art therapy, an evidence-based practice backed by extensive research, is celebrated for its ability to improve mental and emotional well-being, reduce stress, and help process complex emotions. It’s a powerful tool for fostering creativity, emotional regulation, and overall mental health.
Guided by the theme “What’s important to me”, the carers used various artistic mediums to create pieces that reflected their personal stories, childhood memories, cultural heritage, and family connections.
